No matter which colleges and universities you eventually apply to, you'll want to do everything you can to prepare yourself for the challenges ahead. There are several ways to do that. We've outlined them here and have included links to the relevant information about our university.

  1. Discover as much as possible about your strengths and limits and your likes and dislikes. Take a range of academic classes, read widely, and participate in a variety of activities. This will help you learn more about yourself and what you want in a college.

  2. Take as challenging an academic schedule as you're comfortable with. Consider advanced placement, honors classes, accelerated programs, and precollege programs. And always keep in mind the admission standards and requirements colleges have.

  3. You're already doing this, but continue to explore colleges. Pay particular attention to each school's:

Programs of study
Scholarship opportunities
Student clubs and activities
Athletics and sports
Career planning and internship programs
Housing options
Campus community and environment

  1. Talk to your parents, guidance counselors, teachers, family, and friends. The college choice might ultimately be yours, but it's good to discuss options and opinions with the people you trust. Encourage your family to learn more about our university by visiting the Parents Resource Guide section of our website designed just for them.

  2. Begin to plan for standardized tests, such as the SAT and ACT. NAU does not require these tests for admissions purposes but are required for scholarship consideration and invitations to special programs like Honors College. We recommend students take both the either test in the spring of their junior year and again in the fall of the senior year.

  3. Start to review detailed and specific information on:

    Admission Requirements
    Dates and Timelines
    The application process
    Costs
    Financial aid opportunities
