The Northern Arizona University mission is to provide an outstanding undergraduate residential education strengthened by research, graduate and professional programs, and sophisticated methods of distance delivery. NAU carefully balances teaching, scholarship, and service with a faculty and staff dedicated to each student's success. The emphasis is on undergraduate education, but you will also find a wide range of graduate programs and research that extend to national concerns including biomedical sciences, environmental sciences, and engineering. More than 82 percent of full-time faculty members teach undergraduate courses and provide research and internship opportunities similar to those offered to graduate students.

Northern Arizona University promotes experiential learning within many of its educational programs. This type of education helps students draw meaning from their hands-on experiences and encourages problem solving skills and critical thinking.
The university’s 738 acre main campus promotes sustainable practices and is home to several energy-efficient buildings certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The Applied Research and Development building is LEED Platinum rated, the highest possible, for its high-performance construction technology, energy efficiency and use of renewable energy resources. The W.A. Franke College of Business building and the Engineering and Technology Building are also LEED Gold certified.
University President John D. Haeger was a charter signatory of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment that addresses climate change.
