First Year Seminar Program

The First Year Seminar Program will bring the best faculty teacher-scholars on campus together with highly motivated first year students to explore rich and engaging topics based upon faculty research/scholarship/interests and current issues. Through this experience, communities will be established among the Seminar students, strong mentoring relationships formed with Seminar faculty, undergraduate research pursued from the beginning of students’ careers, and increased numbers of students retained from the first year into the second year.

The aspiration of the Program is that the Seminar will become a signature experience for students at Northern Arizona University that contributes to their overall success.

First Year Seminars are taught by the best faculty at NAU on topics from their research or interests. Seminars feature small enrollments (20 students each) and great topics that count toward your Liberal Studies Distribution Block requirements. All courses are 3 units.
